FAQs

What is a Birthkeeper

A trained birth worker who supports pregnancy, birth and post partum with a deep focus on emotional, physical and spiritual well being

How is a Birthkeeper different form a Doula?

While both provide emotional and physical support, a birthkeeper takes a more holistic and spiritual approach often incorporating wisdom, and intuitive practices.

A birthkeeper also emphasizes birth as a rite of passage rather than just a medical event.

Do you offer medical services?

No, as a birthkeeper I do not provide clinical or medical care such as cervical checks, fetal monitoring or medical interventions.

My role is to hold space, offer emotional and spiritual guidance and provide tools to help you feel safe and connected during pregnancy and birth.

What type of births do you support?

I support all types of birth including homebirths, birthing centre births and hospital births.

My goal is for you to feel safe and comfortable with your choices, wherever and however you choose to birth.

How do I choose a Birthkeeper?

Ask for recommendations from friends, family or healthcare providers, look for local directories, interview potential birth workers to ensure they fit your needs and preferences.

When should I hire a Birthkeeper?

It is recommended to hire a Birthkeeper early in your pregnancy to establish a relationship and ensure availability for your estimated due date. Many women start looking in their second trimester.
